Summer school goes beyond remedial classes

How about a Wilderness Survival course that teaches middle school students to survive in the wilderness or a pass/fail chemistry class to become eligible for a more advanced high school science class?

Or transition classes for children entering kindergarten or freshmen year in high school?

Some districts, like Newtown, offer more traditional remedial summer school courses that ensure their students don't fall behind the summer, but others, including Danbury and Bethel, have expanded their offerings.
