Cumberland Valley Superintendent William Harner said he was as surprised as anyone else in learning of his nomination to become the next Secretary of the state Department of Education. Gov. Tom Corbett today announced that Harner would replace Ron Tomalis, who will step down as Secretary May 31 to become a special adviser to the governor on higher education.
The Senate first must approve Corbett's Secretary nominee.
Harner, 56, will resign as superintendent on June 1.
