Talks emerging to put override of special ed tax on Michigan ballot

Superintendents of public school districts in Washtenaw County are discussing ways to bring in more funding for special education—which could mean a proposal before voters in November.

State law allows for intermediate school districts to levy a tax for special education. The levy is commonly referred to as the "Act 18" millage—a name that comes from the original 1954 authorization to create and give taxing authority to county school districts.
