Tennessee county unveils first STEAM school

Shelby County Schools cut the ribbon on Maxine Smith STEAM Academy Thursday.

It’s the district’s first STEAM school, meaning it factors the arts into other disciplines like science, technology, engineering, and math.

“I think we’re going to have people who are good in science and math, but also dancers or also performers who are interested in band, orchestra, and they’re also very creative. We’re going to have engineers who have that flare, that creativity,” said Principal Lischa Brooks.
