Tennessee schools to receive mixed drink taxes

County schools will receive over $80,000 in mixed drink taxes from Dandridge, and an undetermined amount from Baneberry, following a state attorney general’s opinion that the cities must send the money to the county, to benefit education.

County Finance Director Darrell Helton reported on the taxes owed to the county, and more specifically to schools, during Thursday’s monthly school board meeting.

Helton has been researching the possibility of re-directing the local portion of the tax to the school budget for several months, after discovering a state law that said the local half of the mixed drink tax should go to fund public education.
