Think Through Math (TTM), the Web-based solution that provides comprehensive math instruction and practice for students in grades 3 through Algebra 1, kicked off its 4th annual “Time for Giving” contest this month. Throughout November, THINK Nation students have been donating their "THINK points" – the points they earn by completing sections of the program – to a featured charity of the week. With two weeks remaining in the contest, students have already donated nearly $4,000 to this year’s featured charities, including Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Make-A-Wish, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, World Wildlife Fund, The Wounded Warrior Project and PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center.

“We are excited to be back with our fourth annual Time For Giving contest,” said Kevin McAliley, CEO, Think Through Math. “Charitable giving is a great student motivator. Studies show that providing kids the option to donate points to charity, instead of redeeming rewards for themselves, develops decision-making skills, boosts confidence and lays the groundwork for a lifetime of philanthropic thinking and practice.”

TTM gives one dollar for every 5,000 points students choose to donate. Over the past year, THINK Nation students have donated nearly 2.5 million points, the equivalent of $50,000.00, to featured charities. In fact, following recent natural disasters, many students chose to forego classroom prizes, instead donating their points to the American Red Cross relief funds. This has translated into more than $26,000 in donations to the West Texas Relief Fund, Oklahoma Tornado Relief Fund, the Sandy Relief Fund and the Colorado Flood Relief Fund.

“It’s interesting and exciting to see my students choosing to become philanthropists at 12 years old,” said Adria Scott, grade 6 teacher the the North Hills School District in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “Think Through Math allows them to do that and I think it’s really motivating for them and, as a teacher, it’s inspiring.”

Think Though Math is the most widely-used, Web-based math learning solution for remedial math in the United States. Developed by teachers and technologists to help students prepare for Common Core State Standards and accelerate math learning, TTM supports more than two million students in 43 states.
