Three Arizona charter schools that received failing grades from the state likely will close by the end of the school year after receiving notice that the state charter board would revoke their charters.

On Monday, the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools issued a notice of revocation to three charters: Founding Fathers Academies Inc., which operates Jefferson Academy of Advanced Learning in Show Low; Omega Schools Inc., which operates C. Doby Middle School in Glendale; and Kin Dah Lichi’i Olta’, which operates Kin Dah Lichi’i Olta’ Charter School in Ganado, on the Navajo reservation.

All three were among 12 public schools that received failing grades from the Arizona Department of Education for 2012-13. Of those 12, five were charter schools.

The two other failing charter schools already have closed. Sequoia Academics and Arts Elementary Charter School in Mesa was closed and reopened as the STRIVE program. Allsport Academy, a charter school in Tucson, closed in November.
