Three more charters could close in Florida county

Three more charter schools in Broward County could be forced to shut their doors this year, bringing the number of closures to 15 in the last 20 months.

It is an alarming failure rate that is prompting officials to call for more stringent rules from the state.

"The way the system is currently structured, it focuses on creating quantity and just letting as many players [as possible] come through the pipeline," said Superintendent Robert Runcie. "What we really should be doing is controlling for quality."
