A tentative 2012-2013 budget of $273.8 million for Valley View District 365U is the largest in district history, according to officials.
At the school board meeting Monday, the District 365U board voted unanimously to place the tentative budget on display until a public hearing is held to adopt it on Sept. 24. The proposed budget for the district, which serves students from Bolingbrook and Romeoville, is $21.6 million higher than the $252.2 million for the 2011-2012 school year.
Gary Grizaffi, assistant superintendent with the district, said District 365U is still waiting for $4 million in late payments from the state. He also added that the district is having a hard time adjusting to 42 percent in state cuts in transportation, including $1.7 million in transportation dollars that should have been paid in June.
“We have to bear the brunt of an $8.8 million decrease in state aid in the last five years,” said Grizaffi. “That is revenue that cannot be made up anywhere and anyplace (in the budget).”
