Virginia superintendent to retire

Virginia's Superintendent of Public Instruction, Patricia Wright, will retire from that post May 1.

Wright, a veteran of the state education department, is serving as the state's schools chief under the third governor -- two Democrats and a Republican.

“It has been a great honor to serve as state superintendent and collaborate with so many outstanding educators across the commonwealth to develop and implement policies that support higher levels of student learning and achievement,” Wright said in a statement.
