International Connections Academy (iNaCA), an accredited, online private school serving students in grades K-12 in the United States and across the globe, is celebrating the graduation of its largest ever senior class at the end of this 2012-2013 academic year. Some 68 graduates from 21 states and 3 countries gathered with family, friends and school officials today to mark this milestone in the school’s inaugural, fully virtual Commencement Ceremony.
Dr. Steven Guttentag, Head of School for International Connections Academy, hosted the Ceremony, which featured many of the hallmarks of a traditional high school graduation, including: a virtual procession of graduates and recognition of 2013 iNaCA Valedictorian Meadow Lakin, who, in addition to studying at iNaCA, studied dance at the Washington School of Ballet and will attend Boston University this fall. Additionally, the ceremony featured remarks from Dr. Guttentag, who oversaw the official ‘presentation’ of diplomas.
iNaCA’s 2013 graduating class of 68 students is over 130 percent larger than its class of 2012 graduates, reflecting the rapid growth of the international virtual school program. More than 80 percent of iNaCA graduates will continue their education and immediately enter four-year colleges and universities or community colleges and approximately 19% will attend vocational schools, enter the military, start careers or pursue other plans.
2013 iNaCA graduates have been accepted in more than 41 different colleges and universities, including higher education institutions such as: University of Delaware, Stanford University, Syracuse University, Westminster Choir College, Ohio State University, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and more.
“We congratulate the International Connections Academy class of 2013 and wish them continued success as they move on to college, or whatever their post-secondary plans may be,” said Dr. Guttentag. “We are very proud of our talented graduates, whose success is testimony to the power of our rigorous, highly flexible online private school. It has been our privilege to serve the educational needs of all of students, including those whose families live, work, or travel overseas, as well as agrowing number of international students.”
Hallmarks of the virtual private school include personalized learning, high-quality U.S. curriculum, state-of-the-art technology, certified teachers, and a secure easy-to-use online learning system. iNaCA students also have access to innovative electives and programs like Juilliard eLearning online music courses—developed by Connections with the famed conservatory—and the College Acceleration program that allows students to earn a high school diploma and an American Public University Associate’s degree in 4 years or earn college credits toward a Bachelor's degree through University of Maryland University College.
iNaCA students learn from home, or anywhere there is an Internet connection, and work with teachers who are licensed and specially trained in online instruction. The school requires a Learning Coach, typically a parent, to monitor progress in the home, oversee daily schedules, and to help motivate students. Students in grades K–12 can enroll full time or part time—choosing to take one class or a full course load—depending on their scheduling needs. iNaCA students can catch up or get ahead in summer school, enroll in electives that interest them, and choose when and where to complete each day’s assignments. iNaCA students all over the globe have access to an award-winning U.S. curriculum designed to prepare them for college. Experienced school counselors guide students through the college application process, leading to acceptances at many outstanding schools.
