Vocational Classes Taking Off in Texas Schools

Forget about humdrum “voc.” classes.

These days, audio-video production, biotechnology and robotics ride alongside cosmetology and welding in fast-track career and technology classes in Galveston County schools.

“Our career technology education is not what parents had when they were kids,” said Richard Chapa, assistant principal and career technology coordinator at Texas City High School. “These are now high-tech, high-wage jobs.
