Those voices being heard above the Christmas music of late belong to opponents of school vouchers. The topic returned to the headlines a few days ago when an opposition group, including state education leaders, filed a lawsuit in Wake County Superior Court challenging the law, scheduled to go into effect next year.
The vouchers, unless blocked by judicial ruling, will provide $4,200 in state education money for low-income students to attend private schools.
While much has been said by those on both sides of the issue, we see positives that can come from a voucher system.
School choice can lead to competition and competition can lead to schools that best serve all students.
