“This illegal work stoppage has to stop. I want all these bus drivers back to work tomorrow morning,” Mayor Thomas M. Menino said at a City Hall news conference.
Menino said there would be no bus transportation this afternoon for the students who were able to make it to school, but officials would work to make sure students get home.
He also said parents would be notified tonight if the strike was expected to continue Wednesday.
The strike affected about 33,000 students, catching city officials by surprise and leaving parents scrambling for alternative transportation while police scoured the streets looking for stranded students.
