The Worcester County Board of Education has officially begun the search for a new schools superintendent.

The board signed a contract with the Maryland Association of Boards of Education this week for its assistance in finding a replacement for Schools Superintendent Jon Andes, who is stepping down June 30. Andes has served as superintendent of the high-performing school district for 16 years.

Since Andes took over in Worcester County, eight of the county's schools have been named Maryland Blue Ribbon schools. The district is also frequently praised for its high standardized test results and graduation rates.
