W.Va. police officer's election to school board raises ethics question

The West Virginia Ethics Commission this week will consider the issue of whether a police officer may sit on a county board of education.

The commission will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday in Charleston.

Harrison County Board of Education member-elect Michael Daugherty has asked the commission for a written advisory opinion. Daugherty is a Clarksburg Police officer who is resigning in order to serve on the Harrison County Board of Education. Though he is resigning, Daugherty said he requested the opinion on behalf of all officers who might find themselves in this situation.
