Yearlong legal battle between Florida district and county ends

The yearlong legal battle between Brevard Public Schools and the County Commission over school closure has drawn to a close.

With the Brevard School Board approving new school closure guidelines on Tuesday, county commissioners agreed to drop legal action pending against the district, legal action that led to tens of thousands of dollars of legal bills for taxpayers.

The new guidelines make the school-closing process more transparent and set direction for future closure decisions. What remains to be seen, however, is whether they will prevent a similar political brouhaha if additional schools close during the 2015-16 school year.
