Jackson School District cuts remote access costs by 40 percent by replacing Citrix with Ericom’s Remote Access Solution

Working with Cloud services provider Boxed Network and Ericom, Jackson implemented PowerTerm WebConnect as a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution , which amongst its improved usability and lower IT overhead, saved Jackson from having to invest in on-premise IT infrastructure.

Florida elementary school making big strides with Rourke’s Reading Web Program

The School District of Osceola County chose The Rourke Reading Web– a program that includes both software and books with a focus on a student’s fluency and vocabulary development – as a reading intervention program to help ELLs who scored at level 1 on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) Reading and Science to improve their reading and science skills.

South LA elementary schools get blended learning boost from donors and community

With funding from donors, schools and MIND Research, the South LA Community Math Project will provide grants to approximately 20 high-need schools in the area to implement MIND Research’s blended learning ST Math program, which includes instructional software, teacher training and year-round educational support.

Application period open for ‘School Library Program of Year’ Award

Guided by AASL’s “Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Programs”, the NSLPY award seeks to reward and promote exemplary programs that empower learners to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information. Each winning school library program will receive $10,000, plus a crystal statue.

Discovery Education, Texas ASCD, and Texas Association of School Administrators host summit on STEM education and the transition to digital classrooms

Held at Grand Prairie High School and streamed live nationwide, the event featured both national and state education and business leaders, elected officials and students who discussed the challenges facing the next generation and the skills required to address them, as well as the critical role that digital learning plays in preparing Texas students to meet those challenges.

Grit, optimism and other buzzwords in the way of education

Unrelated to new technologies, or digital literacy, 21st Century Skills are all about desirable character traits. I’m all for a move away from dependence on standardized test scores, but the focus on “character” is suspect.
