Greenwich (Conn.) Public Schools has hired Philip Dunn as CIO. Dunn is the former CIO of Stamford (Conn.) Public Schools.

Jim Merrill, Wake County School's new school superintendent, takes over for Tony Tata, who was fired last fall. Merrill is the North Carolina district's third superintendent in as many years and is now running the state's largest school district.

Norm Ridder, superintendent of Springfield (Mo.) Public Schools, announced that he and his wife want to move west to be closer to family. He will step down June 30, after nine years as head of the district.

Just two weeks after the position was officially created, the Board of Education for the Auburn (N.Y.) Enlarged City School District has approved the appointment of a chief information officer who will oversee the district's use of data and technology.

The Greenfield (Wis.) School District hired Mark S. Kapocius, a municipal judge from Greendale, a suburb of Milwaukee, as director of human resources, finishing off a round of three administrative hires in the district.

Rio Grande resident Kerry Higgs, a former police officer and member of the city's Board of Education, was appointed to fill the unexpired term of James R. Washington II of West Cape May (N.J.) on the Cape May County Technical School District.

The University of Massachusetts-Amherst appointed Julie Buehler as vice chancellor of information services and strategy and chief information officer (CIO). Prior to this appointment, Buehler held several executive-level positions with the University of Rochester, including most recently, deputy CIO.

Laguna Beach Unified School District (Calif.) board members unanimously approved Sean Colt as the district's new chief technology officer. Colt currently is the director of technology at Belmont-Redwood (Calif.) Shores School District, where he manages all of the district's information technology, including computer maintenance, internet access and computer hardware and software purchases.

After nearly two hours of joint interviews conducted by the Marblehead School Committee and the Board of Selectmen, William Ackerman was appointed to fill the vacancy on the School Committee. Ackerman, 46, is replacing former Chair EuRim Chun, who submitted her resignation, effective June 30, after ongoing tensions among committee members.
