The Recovery School District, the state agency that oversees most of New Orleans' public schools, is introducing a list of offenses that may result in expulsion from its campuses, acknowledging that some of its schools have been too quick to boot students for bad behavior.

The funding resulted from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's signing Assembly bill A8114 and Senate Bill S5513 exempting the district from a reduction in state aid due to extraordinary and unique circumstances which caused the school district to be in session only one day less than the required 180 days during the 20102011 school year.
The MonroeWoodbury Central School District received $155,000 in restored state aid on June 28.

The families of two Snohomish (Wash.) High School freshmen girls who were repeatedly stabbed by another student at the school last October have filed a lawsuit against the Snohomish School District and against a local hospital that evaluated and released the girls' attacker.
