The slate of 15 applicants for the Tecumseh superintendency was whittled down to the five who will be interviewed at public meetings Jan. 29, 30 and 31 by the Tecumseh Board of Education. The interviews, at 7 and 8:30 p.m. each of the three evenings, will be in the Administrative Service Center, 212 N. Ottawa St.

Patricia Sullivan-Viniard, assistant superintendent of the Quincy School District for the past eight years, is leaving Quincy to take a superintendent's job in the Chicago area.
Sullivan-Viniard confirmed Wednesday she has accepted a job as superintendent of LaGrange Highlands School District 106 in LaGrange. She will start work July 1.

Three board of ed members voted to pay Andrew Rinko, and two voted against doing so at a board meeting Monday. "You need the majority of the full board, not just the ones in attendance," said Kia Bergman, the district’s community outreach coordinator. Four members of the nine-member board were absent Monday night.

Charter school proponents, including this newspaper, always make the point that charter schools are public schools. When they work best, they are places that can strike a spark with students who are not learning in a traditional environment.

Superintendent Daniel Fishbein’s current salary of $227,000 already exceeds the current cap of $165,000 for a district of Ridgewood’s size; should he renew his contract, as he has indicated he would, he will be forced to take a pay cut amounting to the difference.

The American Association of School Administrators has announced four finalists in the 2013 National Superintendent of the Year program. The program, co-sponsored by ARAMARK Education, VALIC, and AASA, in its 26th year, honors the leadership and exceptional contributions to education of public school superintendents. AASA will announce the 2013 National Superintendent of the Year on Feb. 21, 2013, at the National Conference on Education in Los Angeles, Calif.
