Superintendent Daniel Fishbein’s current salary of $227,000 already exceeds the current cap of $165,000 for a district of Ridgewood’s size; should he renew his contract, as he has indicated he would, he will be forced to take a pay cut amounting to the difference.

The American Association of School Administrators has announced four finalists in the 2013 National Superintendent of the Year program. The program, co-sponsored by ARAMARK Education, VALIC, and AASA, in its 26th year, honors the leadership and exceptional contributions to education of public school superintendents. AASA will announce the 2013 National Superintendent of the Year on Feb. 21, 2013, at the National Conference on Education in Los Angeles, Calif.

Administrative leaders from four Michigan school districts have been chosen as semi-finalists for the superintendent position in Rochester. The candidates' backgrounds are diverse: one is a former high school choir director. Another, a police detective. A former longtime technology director for Rochester Schools is also in the mix.

Sharon Scott-Hunter, 59, a retired assistant superintendent of the Chester Upland School District who spent 25 years teaching special education elementary students in Philadelphia, died of cancer Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse. Mrs. Scott-Hunter was a "consummate educator," said Gregory Thornton, former superintendent of Chester Upland.
