Collaboration between mayors and school boards—not mayoral takeovers—can lead to better school governance and student achievement, according to a report by the Center for Public Education at the National School Boards Association. The report also found that mayors can provide great benefits to public schools, enabling better integration and coordination of services for children and families.

Des Plaines CSD 62 has expanded its partnership with Discovery Education to include an extensive professional development program. District 62 will work with Discovery Education’s Digital Leader Corps multi-year program to develop teacher leaders to actively participate in the district’s digital transition.

ClassLink inked a multiyear agreement for its ClassLink LaunchPad with Brevard County Schools. The full-scale adoption will be the framework that ties together Brevard’s Learning Management System programs for over 8,500 staff and 72,000 students. The adoption will be funded through the district’s local Race to the Top allocation.

In Oregon, Medford's board adopted a new English language arts curriculum that included the purchase of 1,800 Dell Google Chromebooks for about $1.09 million. The hardware will be used to power the 2015 Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Collections blended learning program. Students will be able to access the curriculum on the new Chromebooks in class and from other devices outside of class.
