World’s Worst Pet, an i-Ready iPad reading app, has been named a 2014 Parents’ Choice Recommended Award winner in the Mobile Apps category by the Parents’ Choice Foundation. The Curriculum Associates app helps children in grades 4–8 build Tier Two vocabulary through a game-based learning environment.

New York Life Foundation announced a $4 million grant to After-School All-Stars, a nonprofit providing year-round, school-based, afterschool programs. The four-year grant will be used to support expansion to serve middle school youth in six new cities.

The results of a scientific research study on Benchmark Education's Benchmark Literacy reading program among K6 students in several Virginia schools showed that the program helped 11 percent more students score proficient or advanced on Virginia's SOL test than their state’s average.
