The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) has announced it will be working in three state systems for a project aimed at promoting adoption of prior learning assessment (PLA) and CAEL’s LearningCounts online PLA system throughout the colleges and universities in each system.

The goals of this educational partnership, located at the HCZ Promise Academy, are to improve students’ college readiness by focusing on high-level analytical writing, critical thinking, and communication skills and to increase college persistence and completion rates among HCZ Promise Academy students.

Approximately 3,000 students and 150 teachers at the following schools will benefit from Hyundai’s initiative: P.S. 121 The Throop School, P.S. 91 Bronx, P.S. 1 Courtlandt, P.S. 46 Edgar Allen Poe, P.S. 61 Francisco Oller and P.S. 163 Arthur Schomburg. Hyundai’s grant expands these schools’ existing ST Math® program, which includes visually-based instructional software, teacher training and ongoing educational support.

Evidence showed that Terrence Rideau, who is now 16, suffered broken bones, cuts and other injuries as a special education student at Keller Middle School from 2008-2010. Because of his mental and physical disabilities, which resulted from an allergic reaction to medicine as an infant, Terence is not able to communicate any details about how he was injured.

Lingo Jingo, the online learning and teaching platform, was selected by the Scituate school district in June 2013 to replace a summer program intended to reinforce Spanish and French language skills for more than 700 middle and high school students.
