After successfully implementing the Fast ForWord program in one elementary school last summer, BCS decided to use a portion of the IAL grant to expand its Fast ForWord implementation to all seven elementary schools in the district.

Students in math and science classes at the Amarillo Area Center for Advanced Learning will be shelving their textbooks and turning to Net Texts as part of a pilot program to reduce expenses and incorporate high-quality, interactive, and easily updatable open educational resources (OER). The pilot program is the first of its kind in Amarillo Independent School District (AISD), which recently began a 1:1 iPad implementation at the specialty high school.

The District already utilizes Horizon’s MyPaymentsPlus, an online system that securely processes students’ school-related payments and registers their participation in key activities like field trips, athletics, arts, clubs and other extracurricular interests.

These teams outpaced over 10,000 other students—double the number of entries from 2011—to win an all-expense paid trip to New York City for a two-day competition to determine the overall champions.

Jack and Jill's Preschool Adventure engages children with six interactive games. Dressed in a costume of their choice, such as cowboy, fireman, superhero or princess, learners find shapes in the clouds, match letters to fruit names, count candles on a birthday cake and pick from colorful balloons.

The first cohort of O’Neill Fellows will arrive at TC this fall to earn dual certification in areas of great need for New York City schools, such as science/inclusive education, elementary education/bilingual, or TESOL (the teaching of English to speakers of other languages). Through the support of the O’Neill Fellowship Program, they will be able to graduate virtually debt-free.
