New York literacy pilot launched to improve college and career readiness

Teachers at 25 schools throughout New York are participating in an 18-month literacy pilot designed to improve college and career readiness for all students. This professional development model will be built by the myON team, in partnership with the New York Institute of Technology, the NY State Teacher Centers and their associated BOCES.

Students explore the rainforest with new nonfiction book

With All in a Rainforest Day, a new hardcover nonfiction book published by EdTechLens Publishing, pre-K3 students can learn about the animals, plants and climate found in the world’s tropical rainforests. The book is written by Ellen B. Senisi with photography by Thomas Marent.

Epson partners with Mimio to sell MimioStudio Software

Epson and Mimio are partnering to sell MimioStudio classroom software with Epson BrightLink interactive projectors. Under this agreement, Epson will sell MimioStudio software licenses with Epson BrightLink interactive projectors through its reseller network. The software may also be purchased separately by existing BrightLink customers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education is ready for class

Samsung Electronics America announced the availability of the new Galaxy Tab 4 Education – its first tablet specifically designed to support scalable 1-to-1 computing initiatives in K12 schools. The rugged, student-friendly, 10.1-inch tablet integrates with Google Play for Education and can be managed easily via a web-based console.

Essential Questions DVD debuted by ASCD

ASCD released the new Essential Questions DVD, developed by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins, creators of the Understanding by Design framework . The new DVD, for use in professional learning communities and schools, explores how to design and frame essential questions to create a more stimulating environment for learning.

California district to implement Hayes Software Systems program

The Anaheim City School District in California announced that it has chosen to implement the TIPWeb‐IM textbook inventory system from Hayes Software Systems. This solution will be implemented across the school system’s 24 schools, which serves 19,000 students.

ASCD releases data reports for student success in 50 states
