Application period open for ‘School Library Program of Year’ Award

Guided by AASL’s “Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Programs”, the NSLPY award seeks to reward and promote exemplary programs that empower learners to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information. Each winning school library program will receive $10,000, plus a crystal statue.

Discovery Education, Texas ASCD, and Texas Association of School Administrators host summit on STEM education and the transition to digital classrooms

Socorro ISD launches Anonymous Alerts Anti-Bullying

The Socorro Independent School District has added a new communications tool called Anonymous Alerts®, allowing its 44,000 students to quickly, easily, and anonymously report urgent information to school officials across their 45 school campuses. The system encourages students, parents and staff to confidentially report bullying, gang-related issues and other sensitive topics through private messages sent on their mobile and computer Internet-enabled devices.

Chicago Public School students get a brain boost

One of the ways the school has found to boost student achievement is the use of BrainWare SAFARI cognitive skills development software.Results from the school’s pilot implementation during the 2012-2013 school year showed a significant impact on the reading achievement levels of the school’s 2 and 3 Grade students who used BrainWare SAFARI for fourteen weeks.

Spring Elementary Students and Hyundai celebrate launch of new blended learning initiative

This latest grant from Hyundai’s ST Math Initiative will support a unique, research-based blended learning math program at four schools in the Spring Independent School District. Hyundai executives and Spring ISD representatives were on hand for a celebratory assembly and ribbon cutting ceremony, where students also demonstrated their new math program.
