Santa Cruz, Calif. superintendent announces retirement

Superintendent Gary Bloom will retire July 1 after five years leading Santa Cruz City Schools, the county's second-largest district. The decision comes as Bloom enters his 40th year in education and the final year of a five-year commitment he made after being hired as the district's top official in April 2009.

Carroll schools superintendent requests increased county funding

Carroll County Public Schools Superintendent Steve Guthrie has proposed an operating budget for the Maryland district calling for a 2 percent increase, $4.8 million, in county funding for fiscal year 2015. Guthrie presented his budget proposal, which he says is designed to keep the school system "afloat and address the needs we have," to the Board of Education earlier this week.

Sen. Anderson endorses Hofmeister for Oklahoma school superintendent

Enid state Sen. Patrick Anderson is one of 20 Republican lawmakers to endorse Joy Hofmeister for state school superintendent. Hofmeister, who has not yet announced her candidacy, said the GOP lawmakers will form a steering committee to advise her as she prepares to launch a statewide campaign.

Louisiana superintendent gets high marks from school board

The Lafourche School Board has rated Superintendent JoAnn Matthews as excellent in her semi-annual evaluation. According to board policy, members are required to review the superintendent’s performance in the fall and spring. Each board member completes an observation report with scores ranging from 1 to 5, and then the review committee averages and totals the scores.
