Leila W. Williams has been appointed the new superintendent of the South Carolina school district. She has 35 years of experience as an educator, including 19 years of educational leadership at the district level in the Colleton County School District.

Citing health issues and another job opportunity, Charlevoix Public Schools Superintendent Bob Gendron said he will leave his post with the district.

Andy Craig, who has been Hoover's school superintendent for eight years, has agreed to become Alabama Department of Education's new deputy superintendent for administrative and financial services. Elmore County Superintendent Jeff Langham will leave his position of nine years to start as the state's assistant superintendent for external and governmental affairs.

A former school-board member who quietly ran on a single issue — the repeal of Common Core standards — has apparently won the election for state superintendent of public instruction. Republican Diane Douglas had maintained a narrow lead over Democrat David Garcia.

The Texas district's board named James “Buck” Gilcrease as the lone finalist for the vacated superintendent position serving Alvin ISD's 20,885 students. Gilcrease was most recently the superintendent of Hillsboro ISD.

Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Tom Shelton, who has led the Kentucky school district since 2011, is resigning to become executive director of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents.

Oklahoma State School Superintendent Joy Hofmeister has been elected to the state's top educational position. The businesswoman and former school teacher served at the state level when Gov. Mary Fallin appointed her to the Oklahoma State Board of Education in 2012.

Interim superintendent Jose Carrion has been hired as the new permanent chief in the Wappingers Central School District. He was made interim chief in July after former Superintendent Marco Pochintesta resigned. Prior to that, Carrion was the district's assistant superintendent for administration.
