Kevin Myers has been named the new superintendent of Mundelein Consolidated High School District 120 in Illinois. Myers said he was drawn to Mundelein after seeing how involved the community and administration officials were in the selection of the new schools chief.

Wake superintendent credits “transparency” for passage of bond issue

Wake County Superintendent Jim Merrill is attributing “transparency and openness” with helping persuade voters to approve the $810 million school construction bond issue in October. Merrill talks about the bond campaign in an article in the January edition of District Administration magazine that looks at how school districts can win bond issues. Wake is cited in the article as a success story.

Geary County school superintendent Walker retiring

The superintendent of the northeast Kansas school district that serves children from the U.S. Army’s Fort Riley plans to retire. Geary County superintendent Ron Walker told administrators and staff on Wednesday he will retire at the end of the current academic year. Walker has led United School District 475 for 10 years.

Katonah-Lewisboro School Superintendent Paul Kreutzer resigns

After the Katonah-Lewisboro School District decided to close its elementary school of the same name, Superintendent Paul Kreutzer resigned, effective immediately. Michael Jumper, the assistant superintendent for business, has been named acting school superintendent.

City school superintendent meets with parent group for first time

It took 1½ years, but Buffalo School Superintendent Pamela Brown finally attended her first meeting Tuesday with the District-Parent Coordinating Council to talk about the ways the district is trying to involve parents in schools. Brown received a warm welcome despite long-standing tensions between the leaders of the school district and the leaders of the parent council, which represents parents districtwide.

Kiona-Benton City school district superintendent resigns

The Kiona-Benton City School District's superintendent resigned during a closed-door school board session, a week after Washington state education officials said the district must pay back nearly $169,000 for misreporting enrollment figures. Rom Castilleja's resignation is effective June 30, the end of the current school year.

N.C. Gov. McCrory's 2014 priorities: Energy, education, Medicaid

The three Es on North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory's 2013 priority list have been replaced this year by two Es and an M. During his State of the State address a year ago, McCrory said he would focus on improving North Carolina's economy and education system and promoting efficiency in state government. On Tuesday, he held an hour-long news conference at the Executive Mansion to outline his 2014 agenda, naming energy production, educational improvement and Medicaid reform as his top priorities.
