Samsung Techwin recently unveiled its latest affordable, entry-level document camera for the education market. The SAM CAM 860 offers a 1.39-megapixel resolution, SXGA image output, 30 frames per second image capture for smooth video, and 6X optical and 8X digital zooms for a total of 48X magnification. This model also includes an SDHC card slot for up to 32GB of storage, built-in microphone and LED lamp and a remote control.

Curriculum Associates has recently revised its BRIGANCE CIBS II series of special education assessment materials, and divided the Reading/ELA Inventory and the Math Inventory into separate units to make it easier to access information. Each inventory provides educators with materials to measure special education students’ present level of performance, provide ongoing assessment, guide instructional planning, and offer instructional objectives for pre-K through grade 9, and each integrates with the BRIGANCE Online Management System for tracking, managing and reporting student data.

Released this month, the MultiSeat is part of a suite of new desktop virtualization products from HP designed for K12. Taking advantage of the high power of today’s desktop computers and using Microsoft’s new Windows MultiPoint Server 2010 software, the MultiSeat allows one PC to be shared by up to 10 users. The device connects to a host PC only by a USB cable, without any additional power source or hardware needed. Users then connect a monitor, keyboard and mouse to each unit, enabling schools to provide the equivalent of many more computers at a fraction of the cost and power consumption.

The latest version of Edustructures’ National Transcript Center emphasizes the use of a new online resource, This site allows parents and students to order student records and school transcripts online at their convenience, and it also streamlines the fulfillment process for guidance counselors and registrars, automating student/parent request verification and providing an audit trail. In addition to this new site, version 3 also includes enhanced support for SIF interoperability.

This model includes high-resolution (1600x1200) imaging, 6X optical and 4X digital zooms for a total of 24X zoom, auto focus, two lamps, a remote control, and a hard drive with enough storage for up to 240 images. Additional features include a ScanDisk card slot for expanded storage, HDMI output for displaying in 1080p resolution, and a motion capture rate of 20 frames per second for clear imaging.

Epson’s new visual presenter/document camera is a lightweight, portable and inexpensive entry-level unit designed for K12 education. Features include XGA (1024x768) resolution, built-in LED light, 4X digital zoom, auto focus and a simple connection to a projector or monitor via USB cable. This camera also includes presentation software, and it folds up into a compact rectangular shape and includes a carrying case for easy setup, packing and travel.
