Accelerate Learning Partners with Tuva to Help Middle and High School Students Develop Data Literacy
HOUSTON – Oct. 5, 2017 – As part of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), students are expected to engage in Science and Engineering Practices, including analyzing and interpreting data and using mathematics and computational thinking. To assist teachers in helping students meet these expectations, Accelerate Learning has partnered with Tuva to integrate Tuva’s datasets and interactive, research-based data, graphing, and statistical tools into the STEMscopes™ NGSS comprehensive online science curriculum.
“Tuva provides a unique and dynamic way to interact with data and graphs, which is essential to help students meet the performance expectations of the NGSS,” said Reid Whitaker, Ph.D., founder and chief academic officer of Accelerate Learning. “Together, STEMscopes and Tuva have created a phenomenal curriculum that allows students to dive deep and thoroughly practice all of the Science and Engineering Practices.”
By integrating Tuva datasets and interactive graphing and statistical tools into its lessons, STEMscopes NGSS provides expanded, authentic opportunities for inquiry-based learning. Using the datasets, students can observe real-world phenomena through the lens of graphical representations, tables, and charts, and then analyze and interpret the data just like real-world scientists and engineers.
“Being able to work with data is essential for scientific inquiry, engineering design, and preparing for 21st century STEM careers,” said Harshil Parikh, co-founder and CEO of Tuva. “This integrated solution gives teachers opportunities to actively engage in the Science and Engineering Practices, allowing their students to use data to construct explanations and design solutions for real-world challenges.”
The integrated solution is now available to all STEMscopes NGSS subscribers. In addition, STEMScopes schools and districts can purchase a Tuva Premium subscription for a special discount to provide a unified data platform for their teachers and students.
