IDEA Public Schools Makes Multi-Year Commitment to Video Coaching by Partnering with Edthena
WESLACO, Texas (September 6, 2017) – IDEA Public Schools in the San Antonio, Austin, and Rio Grande Valley regions of Texas is renewing its commitment to high-quality, video-powered professional learning for principals through its ongoing partnership with Edthena. During the 2017-18 school year and beyond, IDEA will use the Edthena video coaching platform as part of its Principal in Residence (PIR) program. This multi-year professional learning experience helps aspiring leaders learn critical knowledge and skills from experienced principals before becoming a transformational leader at an IDEA school.
“Our organization is committed to fostering and supporting effective, visionary leaders who help drive student growth through teacher growth,” said Judy Touzin, senior director of design for the principal preparation programs at IDEA Public Schools. “Video coaching has – and will continue to be – instrumental in this ongoing work.”
With the Edthena platform, educators can quickly and easily upload videos of their practices from any video camera and then share those videos with coaches and colleagues who provide timestamped comments categorized as questions, suggestions, strengths, and notes. The platform enables educators and coaches to participate in collaborative professional learning cycles and engage in ongoing dialogue about instructional best practices.
“Video coaching allows our leadership coaches to view PIRs as they implement IDEA’s School Leadership Levers (SLLs), which are the core framework of the PIR program, in both simulated and real situations,” said Touzin. “As a result of this type of targeted coaching and support, our PIRs have been able to profoundly impact teacher practice and student learning across their schools. Using Edthena to ensure ongoing timely feedback has helped to make this all possible.”
Schools, districts, and teacher education programs in nearly 30 states are using the Edthena platform to make video observation an integral part of teacher induction, teacher mentoring, professional learning communities (PLCs), and peer observation.
