The Virtual High School and Anne Arundel Community College Partner to Offer New Dual Enrollment Program for Students
Boston — Nov. 8, 2017 — Dual enrollment programs provide students with an invaluable opportunity to get a head start on college, earning college credits —but avoiding most of the expenses — while still in high school. The Virtual High School (VHS, Inc.), a non-profit organization empowering schools with the industry’s most extensive offering of online learning programs, has partnered with Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) to offer high school juniors and seniors access to select college-level courses.
VHS students can register for the AACC online course PSY 111 - Introduction to Psychology, starting in the spring 2018 semester. Deadline for enrollment is January 12, 2018. Students will survey a vast array of psychology topics ranging from brain function, development, abnormal disorders, motivation, emotions and group behavior, and will be introduced to the field’s central principles and discoveries. Students who enroll through VHS are eligible to earn three college credits for $599.
The Introduction to Psychology course will be delivered through the AACC Virtual Campus platform. Like VHS courses, the Virtual Campus’s programs offer any time, any place accessibility and supports student success with fully integrated and responsive online services. Class size will be limited to 25 students. This course will be instructed by Dr. Donald Orso. In 2014, he was named the National Collegiate Outstanding Distance Learning Faculty Selectee.
“We chose AACC as a partner for Introduction to Psychology because the AACC Virtual Campus is a national model e-learning provider with a 95 percent success rate in their dual enrollment program,” said Carol Ribeiro, President & CEO of VHS. “Plus, AACC credits are transferable to colleges and universities throughout the nation, including the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. We are pleased that we can give students a jumpstart on college while still in high school, and we look forward to partnering with AACC on additional course offerings in the future.”
