BOSTON (Dec. 13, 2017) – Research suggests that 66 percent of eighth-grade students in the United States cannot read proficiently. To help schools and districts address this crisis and help close the achievement gap for low-performing students in grades six and above, Lexia Learning, a Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE: RST) Company, will host a webinar on January 10 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). 

Leading the conversation will be Dr. Suzanne Carreker, CALT-QI, the principal educational content lead at Lexia Learning who will use the Simple View of Reading to explain why identifying and addressing the diverse needs of non-proficiency can be complex, but is not impossible with the right tools.

Webinar attendees will learn about:

  • The diverse and complex causes of non-proficient adolescent literacy
  • Adolescent learner profiles and how assessment informs their instruction
  • Solutions for helping non-proficient adolescent readers prepare for college and career

Dr. Carreker spearheaded the curriculum design of Lexia’s soon-to-be released reading program for adolescents. Before joining Lexia in 2015, Dr. Carreker worked for 28 years at Neuhaus Education Center, a nonprofit organization offering professional development in evidence-based reading methods to more than 60,000 teachers.
