Lawmakers demand billions in overdue school funding from 2007 legal settlement
A group of women lawmakers are calling on the state to finally pay $4.3 billion in school funding it owes from a 2007 legal settlement.
The seven Assembly members and one state senator put their names on an online petition arguing that with Donald Trump about to become president, it’s time for Gov. Cuomo to commit to fulfill New York’s obligation under the Campaign for Fiscal Equity settlement.
“The lawsuit said that our students are owed and it is something we should uphold,” said Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner (D-Bronx), one of the eight lawmakers.
