Though states are making progress in supporting effective school data use, they must do more to ensure that stakeholders like teachers and parents can easily access information, according to the annual state analysis report, “Data for Action 2012,” released by the Data Quality Campaign, a nonprofit that advocates school data access for all stakeholders.

Westtown (Pa.) School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, January 25 to inaugurate a new Digital Media classroom. The space supports an innovative Digital Media course in the Art Department which is consistent with a schoolwide vision for STEAM education, adding art and design to the more traditional STEM constellation – science, technology, engineering, and math.

This guide focuses on interactive video communication, or telepresence, which simulates a traditional face-to-face environment, the very oldest form of teaching, but no longer limits students and teachers to being in the same place. Participants at multiple sites are able to see, hear, and interact with each other in real time. Telepresence is assisting K20 schools around the world in overcoming geographic and financial barriers.

William "Will" Blaylock has been named chief information officer for the Rockwood (Mo.) School District, effective July 1. Blaylock, a brigade commander in the National Guard, replaces Steve Beatty, who is retiring at the end of the year.
