Dozens of parents, as well as members of the Wake County Republican Party, rallied outside the Wake County Public School System's central office Monday in support of Superintendent Tony Tata, who they believe could be removed from the post he's held for less than two years.

At a Hollidaysburg rally earlier this month, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tom Smith said Spring Cove government teacher Philip Waite spoke "eloquently." A day later, he called Waite's words "divisive and beyond the bounds of acceptable discourse."

The Ankeny (Iowa) School District has filed a lawsuit against its former superintendent, claiming he misled officials about whether he had a new job lined up when he negotiated a $176,000 exit agreement.
