During an awards ceremony Tuesday night at BBVA Compass Plaza, Westside High School graduates Alex Suryapranata and Mateo Valencia, along with Sharpstown International School graduate Dora "Edith" Almazan, each received a $5,000 scholarship after completing a financial education course in high school. All three recipients plan to attend the University of Texas at Austin.

Ruiz was one of six finalists out of more than 140,000 students from across the country who entered the U.S. competition to demonstrate their skills at Microsoft desktop computing applications. Finalists took timed exams and conducted interviews to prove their expertise.
