Governor Bill Lee said he believes K12 education will see a funding increase but that the state has several months left to make revenue projections for large budget items, including “education freedom scholarship” spending.

Republican senators in Tennessee are targeting school board and superintendent associations following opposition to the governor’s private-school voucher bill. A new bill would bar districts from funding lobbying groups, and lawmakers are requesting internal communications from the Tennessee School Boards Association related to vouchers.

Gov. Bill Lee and lawmakers recently rolled out a recycled “universal” private-school voucher program designed to gain support from teachers and school districts with extra spending. The new proposal could cost another $275 million, plus funds to give teachers a one-time $2,000 bonus.
