STOPit has partnered with Evolution Labs and in2Vate to integrate their resources directly in the STOPit platform for participating districts. The new social and emotional learning resource center includes anonymous reporting, incident management, two-way messaging and now SEL content.

Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered a statewide grand jury investigation into how Broward County's school district and other systems across the state have handled student safety and security. But the governor stopped short of suspending school board members or the district's embattled superintendent.

A new study suggests living in a high-crime area, or simply passing through one on the way to school, can impact how often students show up to class. Some cities are experimenting with ways to help students get to school safely, including placing adults along highly trafficked routes to schools.

The 25 sheriff's offices participating in the state's school guardian program have spent nearly $2 million to buy firearm supplies such as ammunition, weapons and gun holsters. The Sweetwater Union High School District is not being allowed to pay its bills on its own after the San Diego County Office of Education found that the district lacked “fiscal accountability.” An independent auditor found that it was virtually impossible to determine an accurate account on how the district spends its money.

Levies to pay for Seattle Public Schools' daily operations and construction projects were easily passing in this week's vote count. There is little evidence of a public schooling infrastructure crisis, and massive new federal spending would likely send much money from taxpayers outside of districts to taxpayers in districts who refuse to use their own money for new construction. Maybe that reluctance is because many taxpayers sense that there hasn't been broad “underfunding” of public schooling or a building crisis.

Gov. Ned Lamont's target is to save $2 billion over the next 10 years. He wants to cut bond authorizations by $600 million a year. That should put a squeeze on new school construction, which makes up a bulk of annual capital projects and in recent years pushed annual bonding authorization to about $2 billion.
